Boston Residential Tower

A city as an ideal is an integrated unit contributing and working together to create a beautifully cohesive environment, this is what attracts many people to migrate into the city. A city as a reality is a number of demographic specific communities that all inhabit a densely packed area. For those who were raised there or for those who fit easily into a community, this systems works, but for those who are new to the city or who don't feel like they fit into one of these demographic groups this system can be uncomfortable and lonely, leaving the person feeling disconnected from their environment.

The Port Waterfront is a developing area in a classic district that has not yet been braided into a specific pattern of a certain demographic. This provides a unique opportunity to create a cultured and intertwined neighborhood where new residents of Boston can easily integrate into the diverse fabric. This ties in with the intention for the area to promote an active and interesting environment.

The building as a whole is a micro city, each grouping of floors makes up a community within the city, each provided with its own circulation and social space much like a neighborhood. These communities are interwoven into the micro city to create a network of culture and social interaction. The floors within the community cater to different groups which then are woven together in their shared community space. All of these elements act together to form a micro city void of the demographic dividers that form the macro city surrounding it.
